Ramayana has picked up fresh momentum after a tightly controlled 15-minute showcase at Big Cine Expo 2026 in Chennai, where exhibitors were shown unreleased footage from the film on August 18. The special presentation was screened under strict no-phone, no-recording conditions, signalling just how carefully the makers are curating the rollout of one of Hindi cinema’s biggest event titles of the year.
The footage package was designed to spotlight the scale of the film’s world building, with creature driven imagery, fantasy elements and visual effects taking centre stage. A key highlight of the response from inside the screening was the repeated emphasis on the film’s ambition as a large-screen spectacle with international visual polish. One attendee present at the preview described the reaction in these words: “The major highlights were the various creatures in the film, including the one-eyed daitya. A bear-like creature was also given prominence. We were amazed by the vision, imagination and VFX. Ramayana truly looks like a global Indian film. Its effects match the scale and finish associated with major Hollywood fantasy spectacles. The trailer had already excited the exhibitors, and this footage preview has added to the hype for us.”
That early trade enthusiasm also feeds directly into the film’s larger release strategy, which is clearly being positioned around scale, event value and theatrical immersion. Big Cine Expo 2026 was held on August 18 and 19 at Chennai Trade Centre, giving the makers a focused industry platform to build conversation well ahead of release.
Trailer And Release Plan Stay On Track
The presentation also carried a making-of flavour, blending fresh visuals with a look at the thinking behind the production. The attendee added, “The asset was also like a making-of video. In between, quotes from producer Namit Malhotra were incorporated, in which he spoke about his ambitious endeavour. Finally, the Ramayana trailer, which has been out since July 30, formed the last part of the 15-minute preview.”
Official film material confirms that Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The project is being mounted as a two-part epic for IMAX, with Part 1 set for Diwali 2026 and Part 2 scheduled for Diwali 2027.
Cast, Crew And Story World
The ensemble cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Lara Dutta and Rakul Preet Singh are also part of the film. Drawn from the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, the project is framed as a mythological action drama on a global scale, with the first chapter expected to establish the emotional and dramatic stakes of the larger saga.
