Ramayana is barely a day into its theatrical run, and the film is already fighting a parallel battle off screen. After storming into cinemas with a huge opening on November 5, Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological spectacle has now secured rapid legal backing from the Bombay High Court, which has ordered internet service providers and digital platforms to pull down illegal links and pirated content within three hours.
The fresh order came on November 6, after clips from the film began surfacing online soon after release. The court also asked platforms and ISPs to share the contact details of their designated nodal officers and confirm in writing that they will comply, tightening the response chain for any future piracy complaints. The matter is next scheduled to be heard on December 16.
Bombay High Court Tightens Anti Piracy Protection
This latest direction builds on an earlier dynamic injunction granted on November 2, before the film’s theatrical debut. That order had restrained unidentified John Doe entities from unauthorised recording, streaming and circulation of the film. The new three hour takedown mandate significantly raises the pressure on intermediaries once specific infringing links are flagged.
Several scenes from Ramayana have already appeared online, including a post credit glimpse tied to Sunny Deol’s Hanuman entry and another first look at Raghav Juyal’s Meghnad. For a film carrying this kind of scale and secrecy, those moments are part of the theatrical draw, which is why the quick judicial response has become central to its immediate post release strategy.
Ramayana Opened Big On November 5
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, with Sunny Deol also featuring as Hanuman. Conceived as a two part mythological epic, the film arrived as one of the most ambitious Hindi releases in recent years.
The film also posted a massive commercial start. According to figures shared by the makers, Ramayana collected Rs 155 crore gross worldwide on day one, underlining the scale of audience turnout it commanded right out of the gate.
Court Order Shields Opening Weekend
For the makers, the significance of the order now goes beyond a one off takedown. By requiring platforms and service providers to respond within a fixed three hour window and identify designated nodal officers, the court has created a faster enforcement route as the film moves through its crucial first weekend in cinemas. That gives Ramayana stronger theatrical protection at the exact moment audience demand is at its highest.
With the film off to a thunderous start and the court stepping in swiftly, the industry’s attention will now be on how effectively that protection holds as Ramayana continues its big screen run in the days ahead.
