Ramayana is heading for another release recalibration, and this latest move gives the Nitesh Tiwari directorial one of the boldest festive launch plans in recent memory. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the makers are now targeting a November 5, 2026 worldwide release, bringing the film to cinemas in India and overseas on the same day.
That marks a clear shift from the rollout previously outlined by producer Namit Malhotra, who had said the film would open internationally on November 6, 2026 and in India on November 8, 2026. The revised plan places Ramayana in theatres three days before Diwali, an unusual call for a tentpole mounted on this scale.
The Latest Release Shift
The significance of the new date lies in how Hindi cinema usually approaches the Diwali corridor. Major festive releases have often preferred to arrive after the main celebration, using the stronger post Diwali holiday stretch to build momentum. A November 5 launch flips that pattern and underlines the makers’ confidence in the film’s ability to pull audiences even before the peak festive holiday.
For a film carrying this level of scale, star power and franchise ambition, the upside is obvious. An early worldwide opening gives Ramayana a longer first week runway before the holiday spike, while also turning its opening stretch into a high stakes box office story from day one.

Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra. Prime Focus Studios has positioned it as a two part cinematic saga, with Part 1 arriving in 2026 and Part 2 in 2027. The confirmed lead cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.
The film’s scale has drawn additional attention because its music brings together A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer for the first time. International distribution is being handled by Sony Pictures, while Dharma Productions is attached to distribution in North India’s Hindi speaking markets.
