Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram in Ramayana still as the film scripts record-breaking North America previews

Ramayana has wasted no time announcing its box office power. The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-led epic roared to a USD 2 million start in North American previews, including about USD 1.65 million from the United States and CAD 350,000 from Canada, delivering a record-setting launch that has put the film straight into the history books for Bollywood overseas.

Record North America Start Powers Ramayana

The early numbers place Ramayana as the biggest Bollywood opener in the United States. In Canada, it has delivered the second biggest opening for a Hindi film. That immediate traction across two major overseas markets has given the film the kind of launch usually reserved for the biggest event releases.

The momentum extended beyond North America. Ramayana also opened strongly in Australia, where it grossed around AUD 500,000 on day one. That makes it the fourth biggest opening for a Hindi film in the market and adds another major territory to its opening day story.

Ramayana Was Built For A Global Audience

Those early numbers also reflect how deliberately Ramayana was positioned in the marketplace. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana: Part One arrived in cinemas on November 5, 2026, as the first chapter of a two-part big-screen retelling of the epic.

The film is backed by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, with Ranbir Kapoor leading the cast as Rama alongside Yash, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and Ravie Dubey. Its multilingual rollout and premium-format release signaled from the outset that the makers were aiming for a broad theatrical footprint across domestic and international markets.

The story draws from the central conflict between Rama and Ravana, with the first film laying out the emotional and mythic foundation of the saga. That combination of familiar mythology, star power and large-format presentation helped shape the film as a clear event title well before release.

What The Opening Signals For Ramayana

A start of this scale gives Ramayana a valuable cushion as it moves deeper into its theatrical run. Big preview numbers create room for a film to build across holiday play, premium screens and repeat audience interest, especially when it is mounted as a franchise-starter rather than a one-weekend title.

For Ramayana, the record preview haul now sets the benchmark for what could become one of the defining Hindi box office runs of the year. If the film sustains through its first full weekend, this launch will not just stand as an impressive opening note, but as the foundation for a much larger worldwide finish.
