Ramayana Goes Global In Screenx, Becomes First Indian Film To Debut In The Format Worldwide

Ramayana has added another major first to its rollout. Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic is now set to become the first Indian film to debut in ScreenX worldwide, giving the project a striking premium-format edge before it reaches theatres this Diwali.

Ramayana Locks Historic Screenx And 4Dx Rollout

The latest milestone is its premium-format partnership with CJ 4DPLEX, which will take Ramayana into nearly 1,300 ScreenX and 4DX auditoriums across the world. ScreenX expands select portions of a film onto the side walls to create a 270-degree field of view, while 4DX adds motion seating and environmental effects like wind, vibration, water, snow, scent, and lighting cues. The film has been specially formatted for both versions, making this a deliberate exhibition strategy rather than a routine format expansion.

That decision also fits the conviction the makers have expressed about the story’s reach. In official launch material, producer Namit Malhotra said, “The Ramayana is one of our greatest epics. It is woven into how we live, celebrate and pass on our values from one generation to the next.” He added, “India’s greatest stories deserve to be experienced on the world’s biggest stage.”

A Massive Two Part Theatrical Event

Produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios, in association with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana has been conceived as a two-part live-action adaptation of the epic. Ranbir Kapoor leads the film as Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.

The screenplay is by Shridhar Raghavan, while Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman are attached to the music. That combination gives the film an unusual creative blend, pairing Indian mythological storytelling with a team built to deliver both emotional sweep and large-scale cinematic texture. The story draws from the enduring conflict between Rama and Ravana, stretching the narrative across two chapters to preserve the depth of the source material.

Director Nitesh Tiwari has described that emotional foundation by saying, “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right.”

Release Timeline And What Comes Next

Ramayana: Part One is currently lined up for a worldwide Diwali 2026 release, while the second chapter is scheduled for Diwali 2027. Sony Pictures is handling international distribution outside India, with Dharma Productions leading distribution across North India’s Hindi-speaking markets.

With ScreenX and 4DX now built into that release plan, Ramayana is heading into theatres with a sharper premium-cinema identity. For a film already carrying enormous expectations, this latest move makes its theatrical ambition even clearer.
