Ranbir Kapoor Confirms Animal Park Shoot in 2027, After Sandeep Reddy Vanga Wraps Prabhas’ Spirit; Franchise Could Be Trilogy

Ranbir Kapoor has finally put to rest speculation around the production timeline of Animal Park, the much awaited sequel to Animal. The actor has confirmed that the film is still some distance away and will only move into production after director Sandeep Reddy Vanga completes his next film Spirit, starring Prabhas.

Animal Park to begin filming in 2027

In a recent interview with Deadline, Ranbir addressed ongoing rumours about the sequel being fast tracked. When asked if Animal Park was already in production, the actor offered a clear clarification, stating, “The director is right now making another film. We should start that film in 2027. It’s a bit away.” The statement firmly establishes that Animal Park will not go on floors before 2027.

The delay is directly linked to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s current commitment to Spirit, a large scale action film headlined by Prabhas. The project has been positioned as one of the director’s most ambitious ventures and is expected to demand significant time and focus before he moves on to the Animal franchise again. With both Vanga and Ranbir juggling multiple high profile projects, the sequel’s timeline has been planned accordingly.

The original Animal, released in December 2023, emerged as one of the year’s biggest commercial successes and also one of its most debated films. The post credit scene teased Animal Park, instantly fuelling expectations of a darker and more expansive sequel.

Ranbir Kapoor On the Franchise Expanding Into Multiple Parts

Ranbir also revealed that Animal Park is part of a larger long term plan envisioned by Vanga. Speaking about the filmmaker’s approach to the sequel, the actor said, “He just kind of flirted with what he really wants to do with the movie. He wants to make it in three parts. The second part is called Animal Park.” The confirmation indicates that the Animal universe is being designed as a multi film saga rather than just one sequel.

One of the most intriguing revelations from Ranbir’s interview was his confirmation of playing two characters in Animal Park. Sharing details of the creative discussions with the director, the actor said, “We have been sharing ideas from the first film itself. How he wants to take the story forward. It’s very exciting because now I get to play two characters, the antagonist and the protagonist. So extremely exciting project and an extremely original director and I’m very excited to be a part of it.”

For viewers who may not recall the hint from Animal, Ranbir further explained the narrative device behind this twist, adding, “The antagonist gets plastic surgery, becomes like a body double, and starts looking like the protagonist.”

With Spirit taking priority and Ranbir committed to projects like Love and War and Ramayana, Animal Park is shaping up as a carefully planned sequel rather than a rushed follow up. While the wait may be long, the scale, ambition and narrative complexity teased so far suggest that the franchise is only getting bigger from here.
