Weeks before Ramayana: Rise of a Legend opens in cinemas, the film has already triggered a major exhibition move. PVR Inox has upgraded 150 additional screens across India with 3D technology, a pre-release expansion that underlines how strongly exhibitors are betting on Nitesh Tiwari’s epic as a premium-format theatrical event.
The scale of that bet is striking. With these additions, PVR Inox now has 1,087 3D-enabled screens nationwide, giving the Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer a much wider footprint for immersive screenings. For a film mounted as a spectacle, the expansion signals confidence not just in its star power, but in its ability to drive audiences toward higher-end viewing formats across markets.
150 New Screens Added Across Five Regions
The 3D rollout has been spread across five regions, with South India getting the largest share at 57 screens. North India received 46 new 3D-enabled screens, while the western region accounted for 22. Central and East India added 13 and 12 screens respectively.
That southern emphasis is no surprise. Yash’s popularity gives the film enormous traction in that market, and exhibitors appear to be positioning Ramayana as a pan-India draw well before release. The regional breakup also shows how aggressively the chain is preparing for demand beyond the metros.
Speaking about the expansion, Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, PVR Inox, said, “There is a particular joy in watching a film in 3D, the sense of depth as a scene unfolds. These upgrades give audiences more choice in where and how they wish to experience Ramayana.”
Why The 3D Push Matters
The exhibition push is tied closely to the film’s technical presentation. Ramayana has been prepared with a 4K 3D Digital Cinema Package rather than a standard post-converted upscale, placing it in a rarer premium category for theatrical exhibition. That distinction matters because it gives multiplex chains a stronger reason to invest in format-specific upgrades ahead of release.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is backed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The mythological drama stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, alongside Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta and Arun Govil. The first film is slated for a global theatrical release on November 5, 2026. Its story follows Ram and Sita’s journey into exile and the conflict that unfolds after Ravana’s intervention sets the epic battle in motion.
What This Expansion Signals For Ramayana
More than a technical upgrade, the 150-screen expansion reflects the kind of premium-format expectations usually reserved for the biggest event films. It suggests exhibitors see Ramayana as a title that can pull family audiences, franchise fans and large-format viewers into theatres at the same time.
That is what makes this development especially significant. Long before opening day, the film has already influenced how one of India’s biggest multiplex chains is allocating screens, planning formats and preparing for demand. For Ramayana, the 3D build-out is not just support infrastructure. It is an early measure of the scale at which the film is expected to play across India.
