Randeep Hooda Brings Operation Khukri to the Big Screen
Randeep Hooda, who recently painted a portrait of a critically and commercially acclaimed outing in Jaat, is planning another gruelling and patriotic track. This time Hooda will present one of India’s boldest peacekeeping missions operationalised for the screen.
Hooda has secured the adaptation rights to Operation Khukri: The Untold Story of the Indian Army’s Bravest Peacekeeping Mission Abroad, authored by Major General Rajpal Punia and Damini Punia, through Rahul Mittra Films and Randeep Hooda Films.
About Operation Khukri
Operation Khukri will depict the events in Sierra Leone, where in 2000, the Indian Army undertook an extraordinary rescue of 233 soldiers taken hostage by rebel forces.
The operation spanned 75 days and challenged bravery, endurance, and international military diplomacy.
Hooda to Portray Major Raj Pal Punia
Hooda, who is known for his ultra-high realism and physicality on screen, will be portraying Major Raj Pal Punia, who commanded the 14th Mechanised Infantry during the mission.
The story transitioned from a regular peacekeeping mission to a high-profile military standoff before being executed as an extraction that remains largely overlooked in India’s military history.
“Operation Khukri is not just a movie – it is a tribute,” Hooda said in a statement.
“It is about the brotherhood, bravery, and guts of our soldiers, being surrounded for 75 days in unknown territory and choosing to fight rather than surrender. I am, in fact, very proud to be playing Major General Punia, whose command truly redefined the terms grit and strategy in modern warfare.”
What to Expect
The film promises to have large-scale action and grounded emotional storytelling – elements that have become intertwined with Hooda’s cinematic sensibilities.
As well as the realistic re-creations of the battlefield, the team are expected to announce the ensemble cast soon. Operation Khukri will likely emerge as one of Bollywood’s biggest military dramas.
