Rani Mukerji, who has impressed the audience with her powerful performances in films like Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, Hichki, and Mardaani, has expressed her eagerness to return as the tough cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in the third instalment of the Mardaani franchise. The actress said that she loved playing the role of Shivani and would like to reprise it again if a fascinating story comes her way.
Rani Mukerji on Mardaani 3
In an interview, Rani Mukerji said that she enjoyed reprising Shivani in Mardaani 2, which was released in 2019 and dealt with the issue of rape and sexual violence against women. She said that she would love to step back into Shivani’s shoes, “but it all depends on the scripting”. She added that if they get a very interesting story to go with the third instalment, she thinks it will be fascinating. “I do enjoy playing the role a lot,” she admitted.
The actress revealed, “I’m crossing my fingers because I would love to play the part of Shivani. When I did Mardaani 2, I was quite nervous because I had never done a sequel before. It’s because I leave my characters behind each time a film gets over and then I don’t know if I will be able to reprise that part again. With Mardaani 2, I was surprised that I enjoyed reprising the part so now I want to reprise it again in Mardaani 3.”
The actress also revealed that she has some conditions for doing Mardaani 3. She said that she wants to do something different and challenging with the character and not repeat what she has already done in the previous films. She said that she wants to explore new aspects of Shivani’s personality and show her growth as a cop and as a human being.

Rani Mukerji, who has been in the industry for over two decades, said that she has always tried to portray Indian women beautifully and authentically on screen. She said that she wants to show the world the various facets of Indian women, who are loving, caring, and brave. She said that she wants to inspire young girls and women to follow their dreams and achieve their goals.
The actress also spoke about the emergence of OTT platforms and how they have given more opportunities to actresses to play strong lead roles. She said that she is happy that OTT platforms are creating more content for women and giving them more visibility and recognition. She said that as long as people see their work and appreciate their talent, it does not matter whether it is on OTT or movies.
