Ranveer Singh Faces Legal Complaint In Bengaluru Over Kantara Chapter 1 Mimicry : Actor Accused Of Unlawful And Inappropriate Conduct At IFFI Event

Ranveer Singh has found himself in major legal trouble over his recent actions at a film festival. The Dhurandhar star is facing a complaint in Bengaluru for mimicking Chavundi Daiva from Kantara Chapter 1. This is a very serious situation as the complaint accuses him of unlawful and inappropriate conduct that hurt religious sentiments.

A lawyer from Bengaluru named Prashanth Metal filed the complaint against Ranveer Singh at the High Grounds Police Station. The incident took place at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa on November 28. During the event, Ranveer impersonated the character of Chavundi Daiva, which is deeply connected to the cultural and religious beliefs of Karnataka’s Tulu speaking population.

The Legal Complaint Details

According to reports, the complaint states that Ranveer Singh’s unlawful and disrespectful actions offended the feelings of millions of Hindus, especially the Tulu speaking population of Karnataka. The High Grounds Police Station has recorded the complaint under Sections 299, 302, and 196 of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita 2023. This shows the seriousness of the matter.

The lawyer mentioned in his complaint that Ranveer made insulting comments about the Ullalthi Daiva during his speech at the IFFI event. The actor also reportedly referred to Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost,” which caused massive backlash on social media. Kantara Chapter 1 is a film that is deeply intertwined with religious and cultural themes, making this controversy even more sensitive.

Rishab Shetty’s Role In The Incident

Interestingly, Rishab Shetty, the actor and director of Kantara Chapter 1, was present at the event. A widely circulated video showed him laughing during Ranveer’s mimicry. However, it was later clarified that Rishab had actually intervened to stop Ranveer from continuing the imitation. This detail is very important as it shows that even the filmmaker was uncomfortable with what was happening. Rishab has not yet made any public statement about the controversy.

Ranveer Singh Issues An Apology

Following the huge backlash, Ranveer Singh released a statement on social media to apologize for his actions. He said that his aim was to showcase Rishab’s remarkable performance in the film. As an actor, he understands the effort it takes to execute that specific scene, and he has the highest regard for Rishab. Ranveer also stated that he has always held deep respect for every culture, tradition, and belief in the nation. He sincerely apologized if he offended anyone’s feelings.

About Kantara Chapter 1

Kantara Chapter 1 is an upcoming mythological action thriller directed by and starring Rishab Shetty. The film is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which became a massive pan India success. The movie is deeply rooted in the Daiva Kola tradition of coastal Karnataka and has strong cultural and religious significance. More updates about the film’s release date and cast are awaited.
