Ranveer Singh Moves Legally Against Fwice Over Non-Cooperation Directive In Don 3 Dispute

The Don 3 fallout has taken a formal legal turn, with Ranveer Singh serving a notice to the Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees after the body issued a non-cooperation directive against him. The move comes days after the film workers’ federation asked its members not to work on projects featuring the actor, following his exit from Farhan Akhtar’s much-discussed franchise film.

Ranveer Singh Sends Legal Notice To Fwice

Ranveer sent the legal notice on Tuesday, June 2, challenging FWICE’s action against him. The directive had followed a complaint connected to his withdrawal from Don 3, a film announced in 2023 by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment with Ranveer stepping into the iconic role previously played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

FWICE had said in its May 25 notice, “Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani informed FWICE that they have already incurred approximately ₹45 crores towards the pre-production of the film. He expressed grave concern that the sudden withdrawal of such a leading actor from the project at an advanced stage could expose the producer to severe financial losses and adversely affect the overall execution of the film.”

Fwice Clarifies Its Stand

FWICE President Ashoke Pandit later addressed the issue at a press conference and said the organisation had contacted Ranveer before moving ahead with its directive. Explaining the body’s position, he said, “None of our workers or members, across all crafts, will work on any of his projects. We have requested that all producers take a stand, join us in solidarity, speak out against this conduct, and make a firm decision,”

Pandit subsequently clarified that the step was not a ban, even though the directive triggered a wider conversation in the industry about whether a film body can restrict work opportunities for an actor.

Ranveer’s official spokesperson had responded after FWICE’s directive, saying, “Ranveer Singh holds the highest regard for the film fraternity and for everyone associated with the Don franchise. Throughout the recent developments surrounding Don 3, he has consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect. While several narratives and speculations have surfaced over time, Ranveer has never considered it necessary to respond publicly or contribute to conjecture. His focus remains firmly on his work and the commitments ahead,”

Ranveer Singh’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Ranveer’s recent theatrical run has included Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again in 2024, where he reprised Simmba alongside Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Before that, he starred opposite Alia Bhatt in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023, after fronting Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus in 2022.

His later releases included Aditya Dhar’s action thriller Dhurandhar in 2025 and Dhurandhar: The Revenge in 2026. On the upcoming front, his confirmed projects listed as in development include King and an untitled film with Shankar, while the future of Don 3 now sits at the centre of this legal and professional standoff.
