Ranveer Singh’s Kantara mimicry row has reached its most visible closure yet, with the actor offering prayers at Mysuru’s Chamundeshwari temple on May 26, 2026. The visit followed a Karnataka High Court directive linked to the case filed over his comments and mimicry of a Daiva depiction while speaking about Kantara at an awards event in Goa.
The controversy had placed Singh at the centre of a sensitive cultural debate, particularly because Kantara is closely associated with the traditions of Daiva worship from coastal Karnataka. The actor had faced objections after he was accused of imitating a Daiva and using the word “devil”, which led to a complaint alleging hurt religious sentiments.
Ranveer Singh Offers Prayers At Chamundeshwari Temple
Singh visited the Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru on Tuesday. Officials confirmed that he offered prayers at the shrine after the High Court asked him to visit the deity as part of making amends for his conduct.
The Karnataka High Court had quashed proceedings against the Bollywood actor last month in the case connected to his mimicry of the deity’s depiction in Kantara 1. The decision followed Singh’s submission of an unconditional apology. The court also accepted a revised affidavit submitted through his advocate before directing him to visit the Chamundi deity.
The temple visit now gives the legal chapter a public endpoint, shifting the focus from courtroom proceedings to a formal gesture of reconciliation.
The Kantara Mimicry Case
The complaint against Singh was filed by a lawyer who alleged that his religious sentiments had been hurt. Following the complaint, the actor was booked in connection with remarks made at the Filmfare Awards event in Goa.
The issue gained wider traction because Kantara, led by Rishab Shetty, became a major cultural reference point for Kannada cinema and brought renewed national attention to local belief systems and ritual traditions. Singh’s apology and the subsequent court directive were central to the closure of the proceedings.
For the actor, the development comes during a busy professional phase, with his screen choices continuing to span mainstream entertainers, ensemble spectacles and large scale action projects.
