Ranveer Singh Starts Survival Spectacle Pralay Today Backed By Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios, Jai Mehta, True Story Films And Maa Kasam Films

Mumbai has a new big screen apocalypse in motion. Ranveer Singh rolled cameras today on Pralay, the survival spectacle that puts him at the centre of an end of the world action thriller backed by Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios, Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal’s True Story Films, and Maa Kasam Films. Jai Mehta directs the film, while Kalyani Priyadarshan joins the cast in a pivotal role, giving the project a fresh pairing at the heart of its survival drama.

What gives the launch extra heft is the way the makers are mounting it. Pralay is being shot at live locations in and around Mumbai after a long, technically intensive pre production stretch, with the production leaning into physical environments rather than a purely controlled studio setup. That choice fits the film’s scale heavy design and its promise of a more tactile, immersive world on the brink of collapse.

Pralay Goes On Floors In Mumbai

The source material shared for the launch pitches the film in dramatic terms, and the line is clearly designed to announce ambition as much as premise: “The world as you know it will end in ‘Pralay’ … Get ready to witness the fight for humanity’s survival!”

That scale is consistent with how the film has been described so far. The project is positioned as a post apocalyptic survival thriller rooted in Mumbai, with a story built around courage, instinct and endurance as catastrophe closes in. For Ananya Birla, Pralay also marks a major statement of intent for Birla Studios as it steps into a high concept theatrical venture with significant scale.

The film brings together a strong behind the scenes combination as well. Jai Mehta, whose work on Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Lootere earned attention for its command over tension and texture, now takes on a far larger visual canvas with Pralay. True Story Films and Maa Kasam Films add further weight to the production, giving the project an experienced creative and production backbone.

Mumbai Becomes Ground Zero For Pralay

Pralay stars Ranveer Singh and Kalyani Priyadarshan, is directed by Jai Mehta, and is backed by Birla Studios, True Story Films and Maa Kasam Films. The film remains in production as of August 16, 2026, with its story rooted in survival, courage and instinct as catastrophe closes in around Mumbai.

The decision to shoot in real locations gives the film an edge that could set it apart visually from other large format thrillers. It also reinforces the makers’ attempt to create a world that feels immediate and lived in, even as the premise moves into an end of the world territory.

Ranveer Singh’S Big Screen Charge Continues

For Ranveer Singh, Pralay extends a distinctly theatrical stretch. His recent releases include Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023, followed by Dhurandhar in 2025 and Dhurandhar: The Revenge in 2026, while Pralay now becomes the headline grabber in his next phase as a star leaning into scale heavy event cinema. The project also signals a fresh pairing with Kalyani Priyadarshan at a moment when both the genre and the ambition around the film are being sold as anything but routine.
