Subhash Ghai was one of the biggest filmmakers in Bollywood back in the day. Throughout the 1980s and 90s, he delivered some of the biggest films with big names. One of the most popular films from his filmography is Shah Rukh Khan and Mahima Choudhary starrer Pardes. The film was a major critical and commercial success and beautifully captured the NRI nostalgia around that time.
Ahead of its 26th anniversary on 8 August, choreographer, and director Remo D’Souza talked about his experience working as a side dancer on ‘Meri Mehbooba’ from the film. He also talked about how he had a scene with Shah Rukh Khan where he said some dialogue. However, those dialogues were edited out of the final cut of Pardes.
Remo said in an interview with a Bollywood portal, “I have lots of memories from the film, I think I can write a book on that. But I will say two things. Firstly, starring in this film was a huge deal for me. Subhashji just said that he needed four guys from choreographer Ahmed Khan’s team in the garage scene and I was one of them. I was given lines, I got a good number of dialogues with Shah Rukh Khan. That was very new to me.”
Remo D’Souza Talked About The Page Long Scene With Shah Rukh Khan
In the same interview, Remo talked about his page-long scene with SRK. He said, “When the film was released, I took all my friends to the theatre, declaring that I have done a film with Shah Rukh Khan and Subhash Ghai. However, when we sat to see the film, the first half was over and it didn’t have even one shot of mine. In the second half, thank god, the song ‘Meri Mehbooba’ came and I had a prominent presence in that song. That song saved me, otherwise, my friends would have really beaten me up.”

About Pardes
Pardes is co-written, produced, and directed by Subhash Ghai. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film also starred debutant Mahima Chaudhry and Apurva Agnihotri. Amrish Puri, Alok Nath, and Himani Shivpuri also appear in pivotal roles. It was released on 8 August 1997 and met with mostly mixed reviews but turned out to be one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of that year.
