Richa Chadha Opted Out Of Many Scenes From Kangana Ranaut’s Panga When Her Role Wasn’t ‘Meaty’ As Promised, Says THIS!

Richa Chadha recently revealed she tried to distance herself from the film Panga when it didn't meet her expectations.

Actor Richa Chadha, recently seen in the Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, has shared her experience working on the film Panga and revealed she tried to distance herself from the project when it did not meet her expectations.

Richa, known for her liberal views, had previously spoken about working with Kangana Ranaut, whose political beliefs contrast sharply with her own.

Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Panga was released in January 2020 but failed to make a significant impact at the box office.

Here’s What Richa Chadha Said

In an interview with Galatta Plus, Richa discussed her decision to take on a supporting role in Panga, despite previously expressing that such roles could be seen as a demotion in the film industry. “I kind of opted out of a lot of scenes in that one, I’ll tell you… Especially towards the end,” Richa said. She explained her initial excitement about the project, thinking it would highlight the challenges faced by female athletes balancing motherhood and their careers.

However, as the project progressed, Richa felt it was not heading in the direction she had hoped. “Somewhere along the line, it went south for me. So, I was like, ‘Give me a guest appearance,’” she noted. When asked if her role was more substantial when she initially signed on, Richa confirmed, “I would say it had more meat, definitely… It’s not about the supporting part, the small part, the special appearance. None of that really matters to me, because I feel like I hold my own no matter where I am.” She also mentioned that she agreed to do the film after a ‘vague narration’.

Richa On Her Journey As An Outsider In Bollywood

Richa has previously spoken about her adaptability in the industry, saying, “I have never had a problem working with anyone. I get along with everyone unless they are douches and then I just hate them.”

Reflecting on her journey as an outsider in Bollywood, Richa highlighted the challenges she faced in understanding the industry’s ecosystem. “I was so naive. It took me a while to realise during the promotions of Gangs of Wasseypur that if I was going for an interview, I could legitimately ask for makeup and hair, or a stylist… Navigating the ecosystem, getting the right advice, figuring out what PR is,” she said.

Richa portrayed the tragic tawaif in Heeramandi. Her character Lajjo succumbs to alcohol after being abandoned by her lover. The series received mixed reviews following its release on May 1.
