Actress Richa Chadha is set to star in a romantic dramedy (tentatively titled Akhri Somvaar) that she has also written. The film follows a reality TV producer who feels pressured to get married after a colleague calls her a ‘childless cat lady’. It explores themes of societal expectations, relationships, and personal ambitions.
Here’s What Richa Chadha Said About The Film
Talking about the film, Richa shared, “From my experiences of growing up in a middle-class Punjabi household, from my childhood, watching older cousins be set up for arranged marriages, emerged this deeply personal story that I think a lot of families will resonate with.”
She continued, “When we graduate from college, we are full of dreams and ambitions. Somehow those dreams get dulled when we enter the job market, and before you know it, you’re in your mid-30s hoping to have both a career and a husband/family. But society thinks it’s too late, and you become jaded because the dreams are now not achievable.”
The actress added, “It is a slice-of-life story, about coming undone and coming together. I think there is currently a dearth of family entertainment. And I think as an actor, my comic timing has been greatly under-utilised. Speaking as a producer, it is a monetisable asset.”
Director Of The Film Not Revealed
The film’s director has not been revealed yet, but Akhri Somvaar promises to offer a fresh perspective on love and marriage. Richa, known for her powerful screen presence, is expected to bring depth and humour to the role.
Apart from acting, Richa and her husband, Ali Fazal, are making strides in film production. Their first project, Girls Will Be Girls, under their banner Pushing Buttons Studios, has received high praise. Directed by Shuchi Talati, the film is set in a boarding school in the Himalayas and features newcomers Preeti Panigrahi, Kesav Binoy Kiron, and Kani Kusruti. It premiered on Prime Video on December 18, 2024.
