When the announcement of Maharashtra theatres reopening was made in September, directors rushed to announce release dates for their films. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and SS Rajamouli’s RRR are set to release in the first week of January 2022, causing a clash. However, the creators of Gangubai Kathiawadi have decided to postpone the film’s release by nearly a month in order to prevent a box office clash.

Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi will now be released in theaters on February 18, 2022. The announcement was made on November 15, 2021, which read, “We are glad to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has a new release date. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film will release on 18th February 2022.”

Soon after, SS Rajamouli turned to Twitter to express his gratitude to Pen Studios’ Jayantilal Gada and Bhansali for bringing the film’s release date forward.

Gangubai Kathiawadi, also known as The Madam of Kamathipura in history, was forced into prostitution at a young age and went on to become an extraordinarily powerful pimp with a slew of ruthless gangsters as clients.

Meanwhile, Jr NTR and Ram Charan star in RRR, a historical drama. Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn make cameo appearances in the flick. On January 7, 2022, the film will be released.
