With “Monster,” Netflix is adopting an anthology strategy and has renewed the programme for two additional seasons. The second season of “The Watcher” has also been ordered by Netflix. Both programmes were created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Both “Monster” and “The Watcher” made their debuts on September 21 and October 13, respectively.
The first season of “Monster” focused on the life and deeds of notorious serial murderer Jeffrey Dahmer and was officially titled Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. According to Netflix, the two upcoming episodes will each centre on other horrific people that have touched civilization.
Both the Nielsen and Netflix streaming charts have Monster at the top. Furthermore, it won the Nielsen ratings for three straight weeks. It is currently Netflix’s second-most watched English TV season of all time.
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher,’” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s head of global TV. “The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on ‘Monster’ along with Eric Newman on ‘The Watcher’ are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the ‘Monster’ and ‘Watcher’ universes.”
In “Monster,” which also starred Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned, and Niecy Nash, Evan Peters played the role of Dahmer. Along with Peters, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Evan Peters, and Janet Mock, Murphy and Brennan acted as executive producers. The first episode was executive produced and directed by Carl Franklin. Producer Rashad Robinson from Color of Change acted as a consultant.
The most well-known hit shows that Ryan Murphy has produced for the FX network include American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and most recently, Ratched for Netflix.
