Salman Khan’s courtroom fight over Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy is back in sharp focus, with the Delhi High Court now seeking his response to a fresh plea from producer Amit Jani. For an industry that closely tracks the collision of stardom, image control, and real life controversy, the latest hearing has once again turned this case into a closely watched flashpoint.
Latest Court Update
The matter came up before Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani, where Jani sought a stay on the hearing of Salman Khan’s suit linked to the proposed film. The producer’s counsel argued that a similar relief had already been sought in an earlier matter pending before the High Court and that the present proceedings should be kept on hold until that case is decided.
During the hearing, Justice Bhambhani sought clarification on whether the original case filed by Salman Khan was a personality rights suit. Senior advocate Ravi Prakash, appearing for the actor, said he would file a reply to the producer’s application. The court has now listed the matter for further hearing on December 16.
Why Salman Khan Objected To Kala Hiran
At the heart of the dispute is Salman Khan’s claim that Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy draws too closely from his public life and harms his reputation. His side has argued that the project violates his personality rights and crosses the line between fictional storytelling and an identifiable portrayal of a real star.
The actor’s legal team has contended that the film’s two minute teaser unmistakably echoed Salman Khan through a fictional character named Ayan Khan. It also objected to references tied to Dabangg and Sikandar, along with details linked to the 1998 blackbuck case, which remains a deeply sensitive chapter in the actor’s public life.
The Wider Legal Battle
The dispute has expanded beyond just one teaser or one promotional campaign. Amit Jani has already moved the Supreme Court against an earlier Delhi High Court order that directed the removal of Kala Hiran promotional material, including the teaser.
That wider fight is what gives this case its industry significance. The outcome could shape how filmmakers approach stories that appear fictional on the surface but carry unmistakable echoes of a real celebrity’s life, screen image, and legal history. In a business where star identity is often as valuable as the films themselves, the case is being watched as much for its legal implications as for its headline value.
Salman Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
The legal spotlight arrives at a time when Salman Khan has remained firmly in the public conversation through both screen appearances and major star driven projects. He starred in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Tiger 3 in 2023, followed by appearances in Singham Again and Baby John in 2024. He then headlined Sikandar in 2025. One of his confirmed upcoming films is Raja Shivaji, a 2026 release in which he has a special appearance, keeping his star presence active even as this court battle continues toward its next hearing on December 16.
