Viveck Vaswani has pulled no punches while revisiting his equation with Salman Khan, saying alcohol and indiscipline are the reasons he chose not to work with the superstar again after Patthar Ke Phool. The candour of the remark has instantly given an old industry association a new sting, especially because Vaswani was speaking about a phase before Salman grew into one of Hindi cinema’s most dominant stars.
Looking back at the 1991 film that introduced Raveena Tandon opposite Salman, Vaswani said his problem was never personal. It was about the atmosphere in which a film gets made and the standards he expects on a set. He also made it clear that he would still be open to collaborating if the working conditions matched the discipline he values.

Speaking on Vickey Lalwani’s podcast, Vaswani said, “I can’t work in environments where there is alcohol, where people drink and work in an undisciplined manner. I cannot function like that. If I get the Salman Khan I’ve seen with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Sooraj Barjatya, I will work with him. With them, Salman is completely disciplined, a top professional, and gives his best.”
He added that punctuality and process matter deeply to him, saying a 9 am shift cannot become a 4 pm arrival. Vaswani also recalled that during Patthar Ke Phool, Salman had less room to alter things because his father, Salim Khan, who wrote the script, was closely involved. He remembered script sessions at Salim Khan’s home and spoke warmly about the family’s hospitality during that period.
