Parineeti Chopra‘s Reporting Live has landed in controversy just weeks after its Netflix release, with investigative journalist Sandhya Ravishankar accusing the makers of lifting elements from her real-life reporting without giving her credit. The allegation has quickly turned the crime drama into the subject of a much sharper conversation, one that now goes beyond reviews and straight into authorship and ethics.
Sandhya Ravishankar’s Allegation Against Reporting Live
Ravishankar publicly called out Netflix and the film’s team in a strongly worded post on X, alleging that the story borrowed from her work on illegal sand mining in Tamil Nadu. Her charge was specific. She wrote, “The next time you want to name a reporter character Sandhya, show her uncovering illegal sand mining, create a Tamil villain, and pick bits and pieces from MY real life story which was pitched to you TWICE in 2022 and 2023, AND not give me any credit at the least…. Think hard and well.”
She did not stop there. Ravishankar also slammed the finished film, writing, “Thankfully it was a supremely crappy movie with ham performances and @ParineetiChopra was nothing like me. In fact she was nothing like any reporter & the newsroom portrayal was idiotic & amateurish.”
In the same post, she further accused the makers of deliberately changing enough details to avoid legal trouble. Ravishankar wrote, “You’ve been clever enough to try & escape a lawsuit by altering the story enough. You owe me a public apology at the very least but I’m certain you have no moral fibre in you to do so. Shame on you all, especially the director-writer Dhruv Tripathi. Stealing other people’s hard work and making money sneakily out of it.”
What Reporting Live Is About
Released on Netflix on October 9, 2026, Reporting Live stars Parineeti Chopra as television reporter Sandhya Yadav and Deven Bhojani as her video journalist colleague Vinod Sharma. The thriller follows the duo as they investigate an illegal sand-mining racket and get pulled into a dangerous criminal network.
The film marked Dhruv Tripathi’s directorial debut. He also co-wrote it with Mihir Jadhav. The cast includes Amol Palekar, Adil Hussain, Shekhar Suman, Nassar, Saswata Chatterjee, Pitobash Tripathy, Prachee Shah Paandya and Sameer Kochhar.
Parineeti Chopra’s Recent And Upcoming Work
For Parineeti, Reporting Live arrived in a phase where she has been balancing selective screen appearances with streaming projects. Before this, her most recent film release was Amar Singh Chamkila in 2024, in which she starred opposite Diljit Dosanjh as Amarjot in Imtiaz Ali’s biographical drama for Netflix. In 2023, she was also seen in Mission Raniganj, led by Akshay Kumar.
In 2026, she expanded further into long-format streaming with Shaque: Trust No One. That makes Reporting Live another notable digital outing in her recent career, though this time the conversation around the film has shifted away from performance and onto the much more serious question of originality.
