Sanjay Gupta’s film Shootout at Lokhandwala was a box office success when it was released in 2007. The sequel, Shootout at Wadala, was released in 2013, and it was the second film in the franchise. The filmmaker began production on the third episode last year, and it was rumoured this year that the future film will be based on the 1992 gunfight at JJ Hospital.
The latest update states that Aditya Roy Kapur haa been roped in as a lead in the film. According to the grapevine, “It seems like Malang star Aditya Roy Kapur is in demand for action movies. Right after Malang, he signed OM: The Battle Within. Now we hear that the makers of the Shootout franchise have roped in Aditya Roy Kapur to headline the project. While his role details are kept under wraps, it surely is interesting to see him join the franchise.”
The JJ Hospital gunfight occurred in 1992 as a result of the assassination of Dawood Ibrahim’s brother-in-law Ibrahim Parkar, who was allegedly slain by four Arun Gawli gang members. When the two assailants, Shailesh Haldankar and Bipin Shere, were admitted to JJ Hospital for treatment, Dawood’s gang attacked them in an attempt to avenge Parkar’s murder.
