
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films and controversies go hand in hand. Recently an MLA in the Maharashtra Vidhanshaba session raised concerns over the film along a certain section of society was hurt by the representation of Kamathipura in his upcoming film.
Now, actress Alia Bhatt, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and two writers have received a summon from an additional chief metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai. The summons was sent regarding a criminal defamation case connected to the upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi. The court has asked to present themselves on May 21.
The defamation case has been filed by Babu Ravji Shah, who claims to be the adopted son of Gangubai Kathiawadi.
According to Shah, the chapter on Gangubai Kathiawadi in the book was defamatory. He claims that it tarnished Gangubai’s reputation and infringed upon the right to privacy and self-respect of his deceased mother.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is scheduled to release on July 30. Apart from Alia Bhatt, the film also stars Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role.
