Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi To Be Converted From A Limited Series To A Seasonal Affair on Netflix?

Heeramandi is an epic series based on the courtesans of Lahore, set in pre-Independence India. The series will explore the hidden cultural reality of Heeramandi, a district in Lahore, and promises to be a grand and all-encompassing series, with stories of love, betrayal, politics, and succession. The show will have all the trademarks of a Bhansali film, including grand sets, elaborate compositions, and a plethora of characters.

According to sources, Netflix is planning to convert Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming limited series, Heeramandi, into a seasonal show. The first season of the series will consist of eight episodes, and it is expected that the episodes will not be released all at once. Instead, each episode will be like an individual film, to be savored in leisure. The series is described as the digital equivalent of K Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam, with every frame being a work of art. The show is gradually shaping into one of the finest digital experiences originating from Asia.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who recently marked 25 years in the industry, is partnering with Netflix for this series. Heeramandi is an important milestone in his journey as a filmmaker, and he is nervous yet excited about making it. He is looking forward to his partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences all over the world.

Revealing details on scheduling plans a source close to the project informs, “The initial plan was to do a limited series. But everyone felt the series had the potential to be converted into a seasonal event.” The first season of eight episodes will air in the second-half of 2023(month and date not yet decided).

It marks Bhansali’s first digital debut with Netfilx which stars Sonakshi Sihna, Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari and Richa Chadha in the lead roles. Apart from this, this will also marks actor Fardeen Khan comeback into the showbiz. As per the resources,  the set of Heeramandi was made in the same spot as Gangubai Kathiawadi. Like a drama, it tells eight different stories in a full-length feature film style.
