Shah Rukh Khan is the king of romance and he has romanced with several actresses on-screen. This includes Preity Zinta, Kajol, and Kareen Kapoor among others. With Rani Mukerji, SRK has done several memorable films in his career. One of them is Aziz Mirza’s romantic drama Chalte Chalte. Starring SRK (who also co-produced the film with Juhi Chawla under the Dreamz Unlimited banner) and Rani, the film chronicles a young couple as they navigate their relationship.
Released on June 13, 2003, the film has completed 20 years. Still remembered for Shah Rukh-Rani’s crackling chemistry and amazing soundtrack, Chalte Chalte is one such film from both the actors’ filmography that hasn’t received its due. The film’s music, composed by Jatin-Latin and Aadesh Srivastava, became an instant hit. Especially the song “Tauba Tumhare Yeh Ishare” is still enjoyed by the younger generation.
Apart from the lead, Satish Shah, Lilette Dubey, Johny Lever, and Jas Arora also appear in supporting roles. A major critical and commercial success, Chalte Chalte also bagged five nominations from Filmfare Awards. This was the third and final film of SRK and Juhi’s production company called Dreamz Unlimited. Later on, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan rebranded the company as Red Chillies Entertainment.
A Controversial Fact About Chalte Chalte’s Casting
The role of Priya Chopra was first rejected by Rani Mukerji because of her other commitments. It was then offered to Aishwarya Rai who signed the film. However, this was the time when she was in a relationship with Salman Khan. Media reports suggest that Khan would storm the set and create havoc. This caused the film to get delayed and Rai had to leave the film. Rani eventually agreed to do the role.
