Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is being praised for his alleged involvement in the release of eight former Indian Navy officers who were detained in Qatar on charges of espionage. He was spotted in Doha few days back to attend AFC final and a watch and jewelery exhibition.
Shah Rukh Issues Official Statement
Shah Rukh issues official statement regarding the ongoing chatter online over his role in releasing of Indian naval officers from Qatar.
Here is the statement:
“Regarding the reports concerning Shah Rukh Khan’s purported role in the release of India’s naval officers from Qatar, the office of Mr. Shah Rukh Khan says that any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded, emphasizing the execution of this successful resolution solely rests with the Indian government officials and unequivocally denies Mr.Khans participation in this matter.
Additionally, all matters involving diplomacy and statecraft are best executed by our very able leaders. Mr. Khan, like many other Indians, is happy that the naval officers are back home safe and wishes them all the best.”
Subramaniam Swamy claims SRK helped Modi free Naval officers
According to BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, PM Narendra Modi sought Khan’s help after failing to persuade the Qatari authorities through diplomatic channels. Swamy claimed that Khan intervened and got an expensive settlement from the Qatari sheikhs to free the Indian nationals.
However, the Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed Swamy’s claim and has only expressed appreciation for the decision by the Amir of Qatar to enable the release and homecoming of the Indian nationals. The Qatari court had earlier commuted the death sentence of the jailed Indian Navy veterans to an extended prison term after diplomatic talks between Qatar and India.
