SHOCKING Postponement: Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 Delayed Indefinitely Due To Legal Issues And Financial Disputes

Nandamuri Balakrishna‘s highly awaited Akhanda 2 has hit a massive hurdle just hours before its big release. The film has been postponed indefinitely, leaving fans and the trade in complete shock. This is not a routine delay but a serious setback due to legal and financial issues.

The Boyapati Sreenu directorial was pitched as a grand sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Akhanda. The film was slated to release in cinemas worldwide on December 5, 2025, with paid premieres scheduled for December 4. Instead, the film is now stuck in limbo with no new release date announced.

Last Minute Cancellation Creates Chaos

It became clear on December 4 itself that things were not going well. There was confusion over theatre bookings and showcasing throughout the day. By evening, the paid premieres were officially called off. Even overseas KDMs reportedly did not go through, forcing distributors to pull shows at the last minute. This led to massive frustration and disappointment among Balakrishna’s loyal followers who had been eagerly waiting.

The production house 14 Reels Plus broke its silence on social media, confirming that Akhanda 2 would not release as scheduled. They cited unavoidable circumstances and called it a painful moment for the entire team. The makers added that they have been working tirelessly to resolve the issue at the earliest and apologized to audiences.

Legal Battle And Court Injunction

The real reason behind the postponement is a serious legal battle. According to reports, the Madras High Court recently passed an order restraining the release of Akhanda 2 after Eros International Media Limited approached the court. Eros holds an arbitral award of around Rs 28 crore against 14 Reels Entertainment Pvt Ltd, a group entity linked to the producers.

The company argued that releasing the film under the banner 14 Reels Plus LLP could be seen as an attempt to avoid these financial obligations. A division bench issued an injunction barring any theatrical, streaming, or commercial release of the film until further orders. The makers made it clear that the new release date will be finalized only after financial hurdles are cleared.

Industry And Fans Left Waiting

For the industry, this halt comes as a major surprise given the strong buzz and Balakrishna’s massive fanbase. The sequel was positioned as a major tentpole title with high expectations. For fans, the wait for the return of the powerful Akhanda character just got much longer. All eyes are now on how quickly the producers and stakeholders can resolve the legal and financial issues and bring the film back on track.
