Shah Rukh Khan is working for the return to the big screen with a bang. Following more than two-year absence after his last released film, Aanand L Rai’s Zero, the superstar has re-energized himself and has three projects on the horizon. Pathan, a YRF spy thriller directed by Siddharth Anand, which would be his formal return film, followed by South filmmaker Atlee Kumar’s commercial potboiler starring SRK in a double role and Rajkumar Hirani’s social drama, which would begin only once Pathan and Atlee’s filming is completed.
Earlier we reported that SRK and Rajkumar Hirani’s highly awaited film isn’t a typical Bollywood social drama, but rather tackles a larger immigration issue. The yet-untitled film is focused on the problem of “donkey flight,” an illegal backdoor route that has emerged as a popular escape route for Indians wishing to immigrate to the United States and Canada.
Now we know a little more about Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film. The superstar’s character is believed to be a jolly Punjabi guy, and we’re curious if we’ll see him reprise his role as Veer Pratap Singh from Veer-Zaara. For the uninitiated, SRK was portrayed as a fun-loving character in the film before being falsely arrested in Pakistan. And we all enjoyed the film, particularly the character performed by our favorite Shah Rukh Khan.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Rajkumar Hirani is almost done writing the script and he has already started doing recce in Punjab. According to our sources, the SRK-Hirani film will begin shooting in May 2022. Taapsee Pannu is said to be the leading lady of the film, although she has yet to be signed.
