S.S. Rajamouli will do everything in his power to have his blockbuster film RRR on the Oscars shortlist. Rajamouli and his team are submitting RRR as an independent entry to the Oscars in the hopes of catching the attention of the jury, even though the Indian government has chosen Pan Nalin’s exquisite Gujarati film Chhelo Show as India’s official participation in the Oscars.
An aggressive and focused marketing in Los Angeles is necessary for an independent picture to be taken seriously for an Oscar. In order to promote this film in the run-up to the Oscar nominations, Rajamouli and his two major actors Ram Charan and NTR Junior are reportedly “pulling out all the stops.”
In Los Angeles, Rajamouli and the RRR producers are promoting the movie for close to Rs 80 crores, and it appears that their work is having an impact. The Governors Awards signal the official start of the Oscar campaign. A day after RRR was handed over, American talent agency Creative Artists Agency signed Rajamouli (CAA).
The fictitious story RRR is based on the real-life experiences of two well-known rebels from the 1920s, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Ram Charan played Ram, and Tarak, also known as Jr. NTR, played Bheem. The film is one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever with over 1000 crore in gross profits against a roughly 300 crore budget.
