Sunny Deol, who made a smashing comeback with the blockbuster Gadar 2, has reportedly signed another exciting project with producer Vishal Rana. The veteran actor will team up with the renowned director duo Abbas Mustan for the first time in his career for a high-octane action thriller.

According to sources as quoted by Pinkvilla, the yet-untitled film is currently in the pre-production stage and will go on floors in the first quarter of 2024. The film will feature Sunny Deol in a powerful role, along with four other seasoned actors, whose casting is underway. The film is expected to have the trademark twists and turns of Abbas Mustan, who have previously worked with Sunny’s brother Bobby Deol in several films.

“Sunny and Abbas Mustan have been discussing a project for a while now and things have fallen in place. It’s a big-scale action thriller with typical twists and turns that the maverick director duo is known for. It is currently in the pre-production stage and will go on floors in the first quarter of 2024,” revealed a source close to the development, adding further that apart from Sunny, the script warrants the presence of four more seasoned actors. “The casting is underway,” informed the source.
“Abbas Mustan have worked with Bobby Deol in multiple films and this would be their first stint with Sunny Deol. Vishal has got together this dynamic force and is set to put it in motion soon,” the source added.
The film will be produced by Vishal Rana under his banner Echelon Productions and is slated to release by the end of next year. This will be the second collaboration between Sunny Deol and Vishal Rana, who are also working on a social drama, which may hit the screens in the first half of 2024.
Sunny Deol is also busy with other projects, such as Lahore: 1947, a partition drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, which he will wrap up in the next four months. He is also in talks for a film with Mythri Productions, Ramayana, where he is likely to play Lord Hanuman, and the sequel of Border.

In the latest episode of Koffee with Karan, host Karan Johar grilled actor Sunny Deol over his statement that Gadar 2 had an ‘organic’ box office collection, unlike other films that inflate their numbers. To this, Sunny promptly replies, “That does happen. That’s the way society is moving right now.” Karan Johar asks him again, “Is that why the tagline of Gadar 2 was Hindustan ka asli blockbuster?”
Some other glimpses from the promo had Bobby Deol recalling the tough phase in his career and the advice that Salman Khan gave to him, “One day Salman told me, jab mera career theek nahi chal raha tha, tab tere Bhai ke peeth pe chadh gaya tha aur aage badha. Toh maine usko bola, toh mujhe apni peeth pe chadhne de na.”
Karan Johar asks Bobby, “Why your father is being so chaalu?” Bobby says with laughter, “I don’t know.” He adds, “Your film Rocky Aur Rani, I loved the film. Humlog mazaak karte rehte hai ki Pappa kiss wiss bhi kar rahe the lekin sab log bolte hai he is so cute.”
To this, Karan Johar asks, “What was your reaction when you heard about the kiss or saw the kiss?” Sunny Deol responds, “Dad can do whatever he likes and he can get away with it.”
The episode also featured some light-hearted moments between the brothers, who shared their thoughts on their father Dharmendra’s kiss in Karan Johar’s upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. They also played some fun games and answered some rapid-fire questions.
Gadar 2, which released in August 2023, is a sequel to the 2001 hit film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. The film, set in the backdrop of the Partition of India, follows the story of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakina (Ameesha Patel) as they face new challenges in their married life. The film has reportedly crossed Rs 500 crore mark in the domestic market, making it one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
