Sunny Deol’s Border 2 Moving Forward Despite Copyright Dispute Over Original Film; Check Out What Makers Said!

Border 2 will move forward despite ongoing legal dispute over the original film. The sequel stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan & Diljit Dosanjh.

Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated sequel, Border 2, is set to proceed without any disruption from ongoing legal issues surrounding the original Border film from 1997.

Recent reports indicated a potential snag when film distributor Bharat Shah filed a public notice against filmmaker JP Dutta, claiming copyright ownership of the first film.

Shah, acting as the World Rights Controller, warned that anyone working with Dutta on the sequel should be aware of the ongoing civil court case.

Nidhi Dutta Assures Border 2 Is Unaffected Amid Legal Battle Over The Rights Of 1st Instalment

Despite the drama, Nidhi Dutta, producer and daughter of JP Dutta, has reassured fans and stakeholders that Border 2 will not be impacted. “No, this is not going to affect Border 2,” Nidhi Dutta told HT City.

She explained that the issue had been reviewed by the High Court, which ultimately rejected Shah’s case. According to Dutta, Shah has failed to make the required payments for 27 years and has no current claim to anything related to the Border.

The Legal Battle For Border Rights

The legal notice, published in the September 7 issue of Complete Cinema magazine, detailed an agreement from November 21, 1994. Under this agreement, Bharat and Bina Bharat Shah were to finance the original Border, with profits split between Shah and Dutta.

Disagreements over the financials arose, with Shah alleging that Dutta did not keep him updated or distribute his share of the earnings.

Nidhi Dutta reiterated that these legal troubles would not affect the production of Border 2. The Bombay High Court had previously dismissed the lawsuit in favour of the Duttas, making it clear that Shah’s claims would not hinder the sequel’s progress.
