Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s New Release Date To Force Other Varun Starrer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai To Shift, Kantara Chapter 1 Targets Solo October 2 National Holiday Release?

Today, the makers of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, officially announced a new release date. The much-anticipated romantic comedy, produced by Dharma Productions, is now set to hit theaters on September 12, 2025.

This shift has sparked speculation about its impact on other major releases, including Varun Dhawan’s other project, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, and the highly awaited Kantara Chapter 1.

The announcement comes as a surprise to moviegoers who had been eagerly awaiting the film’s original April 18, 2025, release. The film is directed by Shashank Khaitan and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Alongside Varun and Janhvi, the film features a stellar ensemble cast, including Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, and Akshay Oberoi.

While Dharma Productions has not officially detailed the reasons behind the postponement, reports suggest that the decision may stem from a desire to enhance the film’s scale and polish. Reports earlier this year indicated that additional shooting schedules, including two new songs and scenes centered around a destination wedding, were planned to elevate the movie’s entertainment quotient. This extension pushed the production timeline beyond its initial target, prompting the shift to September 12, 2025.

The new date positions Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari as a major mid-year release, giving it ample breathing room to capture audiences ahead of the crowded festive season. For Varun Dhawan fans, this means a longer wait to see the Bawaal star reunite with Janhvi Kapoor.

New Release Dates For Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai And Kantara Chapter 1

The announcement has also fueled speculation about its impact on Varun Dhawan’s other upcoming film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Directed by his father, David Dhawan, and produced by Tips Industries, this comic entertainer was initially slated for October 2, 2025—coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. Entertainment journalist Rahul Raut took to social media, suggesting that the new Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari date might lead to a postponement of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.

However, it’s worth noting that the makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai—which marks the fourth collaboration between Varun and David Dhawan after hits like Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2—have not yet confirmed any postponement. Moviegoers will need to await an official update to clarify the film’s status. If delayed, this could strategically avoid a box-office clash within Varun’s own lineup, ensuring both films get their moment in the spotlight.

The ripple effect doesn’t end there. Raut’s tweet also hints at a potential solo release for Kantara Chapter 1, the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, on October 2, 2025. A solo Gandhi Jayanti slot could give the Rishab Shetty-starrer an uninterrupted run at the box office, capitalizing on the massive fanbase it garnered with its predecessor.
