Suryaa Row: Why The IMA Wants Sunny Deol’s Film Reviewed Over Scenes Of Violence Against Doctors

What began as a birthday teaser drop for Sunny Deol has swiftly turned into a high-stakes clash with the medical fraternity. Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak, unveiled on October 19, 2026, is now under fire after the Indian Medical Association sought an urgent review of the film’s promotional material over its depiction of doctors, hospitals and assaults on healthcare workers.

Ima Flags Violence And Medical Misconduct Portrayal

In its letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the IMA objected to scenes that portray corruption in healthcare, misconduct by medical professionals and physical attacks on doctors, nursing staff and hospital personnel. The body argued that the teaser paints the medical fraternity with a broad brush and turns isolated wrongdoing into a sweeping image of systemic rot.

The strongest line in the letter targets the film’s violent imagery. The IMA stated, “Scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors, nursing staff, and hospital personnel, particularly when presented as heroic or justified acts, risk normalising violence against those committed to saving lives.” That objection sits at the heart of the controversy now surrounding the film.

The association also underlined that misconduct by individuals must be handled through legal and disciplinary action, without damaging the standing of an entire profession. It further said such portrayals weaken public trust in the doctor-patient relationship and hurt the morale of future medical professionals.

Why The Teaser Has Triggered Alarm

The teaser frames Deol’s character inside a deeply personal tragedy that pushes him into a battle linked to the medical system. It leans heavily on anger, loss and confrontation, with hospitals and healthcare spaces forming a crucial part of the conflict.

That dramatic setup has become the flashpoint. For the IMA, the issue is not simply that the film addresses corruption, but that it couples that theme with images of attacks on healthcare workers in a way the association considers dangerous and socially damaging.

As scrutiny around the teaser intensifies, attention is also turning to the film’s larger canvas and the team behind it.

Suryaa Cast, Director And Release Status

Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak is directed by M Padmakumar and stars Sunny Deol and Ravi Kishan in key roles, alongside Pragya Jaiswal, Tanushree Chakraborty, Manish Wadhwa, Tinu Anand, Virti Vaghani, Jisshu Sengupta, Khalid Siddiqui, Anoop Trivedi and Rohit Tiwari.

The film is mounted as an action drama rooted in personal loss, revenge and a collision with institutional power. It is scheduled to release in theatres on November 20, 2026.

Sunny Deol’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Deol has been in a notable theatrical revival over the past few years. His recent releases include Chup Revenge of the Artist in 2022, Gadar 2 in 2023 and Jaat in 2025, with Gadar 2 emerging as the biggest blockbuster of this phase.

He had Border 2, Ikka and Batwara 1947 in 2026, placing Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak among the most closely watched titles in his current slate. With the IMA now formally challenging the teaser’s content, the film heads toward release under far sharper public scrutiny.
