Taapsee Pannu has answered criticism of Gandhari with the one comeback that carries real weight in the streaming age, hard numbers. The action thriller, which premiered on Netflix on September 3, has climbed to the top of the platform’s non English film charts, giving the actor a clear win after the film drew negative reviews on release. As the title surged across territories, Taapsee made sure to mark the moment in her own unmistakable style.
Taapsee Pannu Reacts To Gandhari’s Streaming Win
On September 16, Taapsee took to X after Gandhari emerged as Netflix’s most watched non English film for the week. Sharing the milestone, she wrote, “Gandhari when numbers speak.”
She then reshared a post about the film being criticised and topping the charts anyway, adding, “Not ‘everyone’ I guess:)
When you throw lemons, we make?…..
Cheers!”

That response sharpened the mood around Gandhari’s turnaround. What began as a release weighed down by harsh reviews has now shifted into a conversation driven by audience reach and global streaming traction.
Gandhari Tops Netflix’s Non English Film List
Netflix’s latest data underlined just how far the film travelled in a short span. Gandhari held the No. 1 spot in 58 countries two weeks after release. It posted 9.6 million views and 18.7 million viewing hours in the latest tracking window, making it the most watched non English movie on the service for the week.
The story centres on Bani, a mother forced into a relentless fight after her daughter is abducted. Built as an emotional action thriller, Gandhari leans on grief, fury and survival as its driving forces, with that emotional core likely helping it connect with viewers well beyond India.
Directed by Devashish Makhija and written by Kanika Dhillon, Gandhari also features Ishwak Singh and Mita Vashisht. The film is backed by Kathha Pictures and has now delivered one of the strongest recent Indian performances on Netflix’s global non English film chart.
Taapsee Pannu’s Recent And Upcoming Work
The strong Netflix run also fits into a busy phase for Taapsee, who has continued to move steadily between streaming titles and theatrical releases over the past few years. In 2024, she headlined Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba on Netflix and also appeared in the theatrical release Khel Khel Mein. Before that, she featured opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki in 2023, one of the year’s major Hindi theatrical titles.
Her previous 2026 release also includes Assi, a courtroom drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. With Gandhari now finding a global audience on streaming, the latest milestone adds another notable chapter to a career that has increasingly blended star power with unconventional story choices.
