The excitement is building for the big Diwali release, Thamma, with just three days to go. The film, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has completed its censor process, and we have the details on the cuts requested by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification).
The makers, Maddock Films, got the censor certificate on October 15. The horror-comedy has been passed with a U/A 16+ rating. This means children under 16 can watch the film in theaters if they are with an adult. The final runtime is 149.59 minutes, or 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 59 seconds.
A 5-Second Trim To Kissing Scene
The Censor Board asked for one main visual change. A kissing scene that appears in the second half of the film has been reduced by 5 seconds. According to reports, this was a 30% reduction in the scene’s original length.
Fans might be worried, but this is a very short cut compared to other recent films. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari had its liplock visuals cut by 60%. Another film, Saiyaara, was asked to remove 10 seconds of “sensual, intimacy, body exposure visuals.” The 5-second trim for Thamma is minor in comparison.
Audio Changes And Dialogue Replacements
Along with the visual cut, the CBFC asked for three audio changes. In one dialogue, the words ‘Azaadi doonga’ were replaced with ‘Aiyaashi karata hoon’. In another scene, the name ‘Alexander’ was changed to ‘Sikandar’.
The word ‘Ashwathama’ was muted completely in one dialogue. Finally, the board also asked the filmmakers to reduce the “slurping sound of drinking blood to minimum” to make it less intense for the U/A audience.
All Set For Diwali
Thamma is the next big film from producer Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. This means it is set in the same world as hit films like Stree, Bhediya, and the recent blockbuster Munjya. The film is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who also directed Munjya.
With the censor process complete, the film is all set to storm the theaters. The combination of Ayushmann, Rashmika, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal, along with the Munjya director, makes this one of the most-awaited films of the year. It releases worldwide on Tuesday, October 21.
