The trailer for the much-awaited film Haq is finally out, and it looks intense. The film stars Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in a powerful courtroom drama. Directed by Suparn S Varma, the movie is based on the famous and controversial Shah Bano case from 1985. The trailer promises a fiery legal battle that changed Indian history.
A Fight For Dignity
The trailer opens with a tense conversation between Shazia (Yami) and Abbas (Emraan). He tells her, “The matter should not have reached this point.” But Shazia firmly reminds him, “It was about keeping your word.” The trailer shows glimpses of their happy past, making their current fight even more heartbreaking.
The main conflict begins when Abbas divorces her through triple talaq and brings another woman into his life. He then stops paying the maintenance he had agreed upon. Shazia, left with her three children, has no choice but to seek justice. She knocks on the court’s doors, starting a legal battle that “pits Muslim Personal FLaw against Secular Law.”
Yami Vs. Emraan: An Intense Showdown
Yami Gautam is in fiery form as Shazia. She asks the powerful question, “Why is every punishment and law reserved only for women, and men spared by its implications?” This shows her character is not just fighting for herself, but for many others.
Emraan Hashmi, as Abbas, is equally strong and isn’t afraid of a public battle. As the case becomes a national sensation, he says, “If the whole nation is going to get into this, we will give them a spectacle.” This sets the stage for an intense courtroom face-off between the two stars.
‘A Muslim Woman Of Hindustan’
The trailer highlights that Shazia’s journey is a lonely one. Many from her own community turn against her for taking a family matter to court. However, she refuses to back down.
In a powerful closing dialogue, Yami’s character asserts her identity and rights. “I am not just a Muslim woman. I am a Muslim woman of Hindustan, and I belong to this country. Hence, the law should treat me the same way as it treats other women of Hindustan.” This line perfectly captures the film’s core theme, and the trailer states, “When the silence was broken, history changed forever.”
Haq looks like a must-watch drama. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, and Sheeba Chadha. The story is written by Reshu Nath, with music by Vishal Mishra. Haq is scheduled to hit theaters on November 7.
