The Indian adaptation of The Night Manager has made waves by earning a nomination in the drama series category at the 2024 International Emmy Awards.
Featuring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sobhita Dhulipala, this series is the only entry from India among 14 categories announced on Thursday in New York by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose, the show is inspired by John le Carré’s novel and the original British series starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie.
The story follows a former soldier who becomes the night manager at a luxury hotel. He gets recruited by a government agency to infiltrate the world of a powerful arms dealer.
Here’s How The Actors REACTED To The Night Manager Being Nominated At Emmys 2024
Anil Kapoor, who portrays the antagonist Shelly Rungta, expressed his excitement about the nomination. He stated, “I am ecstatic over the nomination, which is a worthy reminder that hard work always pays off.”
He recalled about the opportunity, saying, “When the offer came in, I was conflicted. It offered me the chance to play a complex character, but also the huge responsibility of adding authenticity to a role that had been masterfully played by Hugh Laurie.”
Aditya Roy Kapur, who takes on the role of Shaan Sengupta, shared his disbelief at the nomination. “An Emmy nomination for my first series… wow! We knew we were creating something special, but the recognition has been beyond our expectations. This is such a big moment for us all!” he said, expressing gratitude to the entire team behind the show, including directors, co-stars, and the crew.
Sobhita Dhulipala, who plays Kaveri, added to the celebrations. “This is fantastic news! I’m so happy for the directors and our phenomenal technical crew. This is very motivating and moving,” she said. She also praised her co-stars and the producers, Disney+ Hotstar, Banijay India, and InkFactory, for their support throughout the project.
About The International Emmy Awards 2024
The International Emmys ceremony will take place on November 25 in New York, hosted by Indian comedian Vir Das, who won an award last year for his stand-up special, Landing.
Nominees come from various countries, including Argentina, Australia, and Germany, showcasing a diverse range of global talent.
