The Odyssey’s 40-Day Rs 90 Crore Imax Run Ends As Yash’s Toxic Takes Over Premium Screens

For 40 days, The Odyssey turned India’s IMAX network into its personal fortress. Even deep into its sixth week, Christopher Nolan’s epic was still pulling audiences in strong numbers across the country. That streak has now come to a stop on Wednesday, August 26, as Yash’s Toxic takes over premium large-format screens nationwide.

The shift is striking because The Odyssey was not limping toward the finish line. It had already collected around Rs 184.23 crore in India in 40 days, with nearly Rs 90 crore to Rs 91 crore of that total coming from IMAX screens alone. That means almost half of its India business came from the premium format, underlining just how central IMAX was to the film’s theatrical run.

The Final Day Told Its Own Story

The last full day of The Odyssey in IMAX, Tuesday, August 25, offered a clear picture of its momentum. The film collected Rs 71 lakh from IMAX alone, while its all-format India business for the day stood at around Rs 83 lakh. Occupancy across IMAX screens was a strong 43 percent on day 40, an exceptional hold for a film so late into its run.

The film also crossed the Rs 1 crore mark on 33 of its first 40 days, a rare feat for a Hollywood title in India. Its week-wise run stayed remarkably steady, beginning with Rs 85.65 crore in week one and continuing with healthy totals through the following weeks. In IMAX, the film brought in Rs 27.97 crore in its opening week and sustained that run with Rs 22.45 crore in week two and Rs 16.10 crore in week three.

Toxic Takes Over Imax Screens

The immediate reason for the change is Toxic, which released in theatres on August 26 as an IMAX title. The film stars Yash and is directed by Geetu Mohandas. It is produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, and also features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi.

One Tamil Nadu location has bucked the trend. The IMAX screen at Broadway Cinemas in Coimbatore has continued with two daily shows of The Odyssey, while giving the remaining slots to Toxic. Elsewhere, the new release has effectively taken over the format.

About The Odyssey And Toxic

The Odyssey is a mythic action epic directed by Christopher Nolan and released on July 17, 2026. Backed by Universal Pictures, the film adapts Homer’s foundational tale of Odysseus and his long journey home after war. Its India run has now become one of the strongest ever seen for an IMAX-driven Hollywood release.

Toxic, meanwhile, arrives as a gangster drama with major pre-release buzz and a premium-screen strategy built around IMAX play. That positioning has now ended one of the most impressive format-specific theatrical runs seen in India this year.
