After the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput Bollywood has become the target for the media to talk, discuss, debate, and create drama about showbiz.
Leading news channel’s prime time debates are only dedicated to Bollywood and the strange reporting continued. However, it seems water went over head and the Producers Guild of India finally broke its silence.
An open letter had been issued in context of attacks against the film industry. The statement strongly asked the media to not drag the whole industry in one hole.
It also requests aspirants to not pay heed to such ‘click-bait’ journalism.
According to the letter Sushant’s death is being used as a tool, “The tragic death of a young promising star has been used as a tool to defame and slander the film industry and its members. A picture has been painted of the industry as a terrible place for outsiders to aspire to; a place that treats those who dare to enter it with contempt and derision; a murky den of substance abuse and criminality,” the statement read.
The letter also highlights the misleading journalism and TRP propaganda by the news channels.
It further added, “This narrative is salacious enough for the media to exploit to great effect in order to boost its ratings, readership and page views.”
The statement further added, “The media must look in the mirror and stop fanning the flames.”
Many members of the industry have welcomed the statement.
