Prabhas much awaited horror comedy The Raja Saab has opened to a disappointing Rs 5.50 crore nett on its first day in Hindi markets. This is a BIG DISASTER for a star of his caliber. The original Telugu version added another Rs 1 crore nett from Hindi circuits. The all India opening day is estimated at around Rs 65 crore gross.
The film directed by Maruthi struggled across most regions. Typically, South Indian dubbed films perform better in Maharashtra, Central, and Eastern circuits. However, barring Odisha, these regions did not really stand out this time. North India also remained largely unremarkable.
Horror Comedy Genre Failed To Click
The Raja Saab belongs to the trendy horror comedy genre and was staged on an extensive scale. However, the comedy elements did not connect with audiences based on the trailers. The South style comedy is reportedly the holding factor that prevented the film from getting a strong opening in Hindi markets.
Prabhas is arguably the biggest South Indian star to have a market in Hindi circuits. He has consistently delivered strong openings with his films. However, most of his successful Hindi openings have been from the action genre or films with devotional elements. The two outings that lacked these elements, Radhe Shyam and now The Raja Saab, failed to get a proper opening.

The Raja Saab ranks sixth for Prabhas out of eight releases in terms of Hindi first day collections. In terms of admissions, it is probably the lowest behind Radhe Shyam.

The Raja Saab follows the same pattern as Radhe Shyam, which also underperformed despite massive expectations.
