The second trailer for The Raja Saab has been released, and while it stars Prabhas alongside Sanjay Dutt, the 3 minute footage leaves viewers with more questions than answers about what the film is actually trying to achieve. Director Maruthi’s horror comedy seems to be attempting several genres at once, but it is not yet clear if this ambitious mix will work.
The trailer shows Prabhas fighting against Sanjay Dutt’s hypnotist character while also randomly channeling DC’s Joker in one scene. The confused tone and unclear direction have left many wondering if the makers themselves know what story they want to tell.
Trailer Reveals A Messy Mix Of Elements
The 3 minute trailer appears to reveal almost everything about the film, which is rarely a good sign. It begins with Prabhas’ character and his grandmother played by Zarina Wahab, who keeps forgetting everyone except a character played by Sanjay Dutt. The grandson, called Raja Saab, decides to take on this hypnotist spirit who haunts his grandmother in nightmares.
So far it sounds like a straightforward horror setup. But then Prabhas visits an abandoned haveli and gets stuck in a house that hypnotises him at every turn. The trailer hints it was all a trap, but the execution feels scattered rather than suspenseful.
The Joker Angle Feels Out Of Place
Perhaps the most puzzling element is when Prabhas suddenly starts channeling the hypnotist himself in one scene with grey hair, and then appears with his face painted like Joker from DC Comics in another. These dramatic transformations seem to come out of nowhere and raise questions about whether the film has a consistent vision or is just throwing in random dramatic moments.
The Joker inspiration particularly feels like an odd choice that does not fit naturally with the horror comedy premise. It looks more like an attempt to create a viral moment rather than something that serves the story.

The Raja Saab is directed by Maruthi and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad. The film stars Prabhas, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab. The horror comedy has been in production since 2022 and is set to release in theatres on January 9, 2026 for Sankranthi. Whether the film can successfully blend all these different elements remains to be seen.
