Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 actor Kartik Aaryan has come a long way since his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama in 2011. While the actor is now known for his confident on-screen presence, his early days were marked by anxiety, doubts, and hilarious moments, as revealed by his mother, Mala Tiwari.
In a candid chat with Galatta India, Kartik’s mother opened up about his emotional beginnings in the film industry.
Kartik Aaryan’s Mother Asked Luv Ranjan To Fire Him From Pyaar Ka Punchnama
Kartik (then an engineering student) kept his acting aspirations a secret from his family. When he bagged his first role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, the first thing he did was call his mother, overwhelmed with joy. “He was crying with happiness and told me – Mummy, I lied to you, I came to Mumbai to get into movies,” Mala shared.
Her initial reaction wasn’t one of excitement but panic. “I sent him to Mumbai to complete his studies, not chase films. I was so upset, I even cried and questioned what the director saw in him,” she said.
Mala was so worried about Kartik’s future that she visited Luv Ranjan, the film’s director, just two days later. “I asked him, ‘Why did you pick my son out of everyone? Please remove him from the movie.’ But Luv refused,” she recalled.
Eventually, she allowed Kartik to follow his dreams on one condition: he had to complete his engineering degree.
His Mother Reveals Kartik Aaryan Was A Big ‘Darpok’
The transition to living alone in Mumbai wasn’t easy for Bollywood’s ‘Rooh Baba‘. Mala revealed that Kartik was quite “darpok” (timid) in real life. She joked about how he was terrified to live alone in his 1-BHK flat. “He called me to Mumbai to help him settle in. He was so scared he refused to sleep in the bedroom and insisted on sleeping in the living room with me. He even made me sleep near the door, saying, ‘If anyone comes, they’ll have to face you first!’”
One particular incident still amuses her. “It was summer, and there was an old AC in his flat. When he turned it on, baby bats flew out and fell to the ground. Kartik screamed and ran out of the house yelling, ‘Mum, save me!’”
Today, Kartik has risen to huge stardom with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 outperforming Singham Again at the box office. Reflecting on his journey, his mother couldn’t help but laugh at how the once-timid boy is now called ‘Rooh Baba’.
Talking about Kartik’s front, he now has PPAW2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety sequel, Anurag Basu’s musical love story and more.
