Katrina Kaif, who is currently promoting Tiger 3 post release with Salman Khan, has opened up about the possibility of her character Zoya meeting Deepika Padukone’s Rubai from Pathaan in a future crossover film. Katrina and Deepika are both part of the YRF Spy Universe, which also includes Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, and Hrithik Roshan.
Katrina on possible crossover of Zoya and Rubai
When asked if fans can expect a possible crossover of Zoya with Pathaan, or Rubai, or other Spy Universe characters, Katrina Kaif told Pinkvilla, “I think everything now has to unfold slowly, so step-by-step let’s see where now all the different avenues – where the spy universe goes and where Adi (Aditya Chopra) takes it.”

She further added that whether it’s Zoya, Shah Rukh’s Pathaan, or Hrithik Roshan’s character Kabir, all the characters of the YRF Spy Universe are so well written, that a lot can be done with them. “But I think that’s the wonderful thing about creating all these characters is that each character, you know whether it Pathaan, whether its Kabir, whether its Tiger, Zoya, they all have got such incredible well-written characters that there’s so much you can do with them,” she said.
Katrina further added, “All these stories can be so exciting and they can all be interwoven and every character will add to the other story and that’s a really beautiful thing and it was a very visionary idea from Adi.”
Katrina picks who’ll win in a face off between Zoya and Rubai
“See, let’s put it this way. I don’t know all the backstories, but Zoya to me seems the most experienced agent. So with experience comes more fighting experience. I leave it to you to decide,” said Katrina in another interview, who reprised her role of Pakistani spy Zoya in
Katrina was also asked to pick between Shah Rukh Khan’s titular character from Pathaan and Hrithik Roshan’s character Kabir from War as her sidekick. “This is a phenomenal film I’m doing, first of all, where Pathaan or Kabir is my sidekick! The wonderful thing about the Spy Universe is that all the characters are so well-written and have a strong identity of their own that you kind of can put any piece anywhere. Every piece fits beautifully. That’s in the strength of the characters,” Katrina said in the same interview.
Katrina and Deepika are likely to clash in the upcoming instalment of the YRF Spy Universe, Tiger vs Pathaan.
Pathaan’s writer hinted at a crossover film between Zoya and Rubai
Pathaan’s writer Sridhar Raghavan had earlier hinted that a crossover film between Zoya and Rubai might be in the works. He told another publication that the intention of Aditya Chopra, the producer of the YRF Spy Universe, is to have a crossover between his male and female characters. He also said that the possibilities are limitless and fans can expect the unexpected.
He had said, “There’s a vacuum of those kinds of stories here. I’m pretty sure we’ll be filling that up. So, yes, there’s definitely a plan to make a spy film with the women.”
He goes on to reveal that the idea is to not just bring the male superstars together but also various other characters, who are an integral part of the universe. “There’s no limitation here and we don’t just plan on working with Hrithik, Shah Rukh sir and Salman sir. There are two other crucial characters in the universe – Rubina and Zoya,” Shridhar states.
Shridhar adds, “There’s so much more to explore. Something like a spy universe hasn’t been explored in Hindi cinema. It’s a bit of a playground and we’re like a bunch of kids who’re extremely excited. There are lots of intentions and plans, and hopefully, we’ll do a decent job.”
Katrina, who made her debut as Zoya in Ek Tha Tiger (2012), reprised her role in Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and was seen again in Tiger 3, which was released on Diwali. Deepika, who played Rubai for the first time in Pathaan, is also rumored to join Shah Rukh and John in War 2, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, which starred Hrithik and Tiger Shroff.
