Yash’s Toxic has run into a fresh setback at the box office. After the film opened in Kannada and dubbed Indian language versions on August 26, its English edition arrived in cinemas on September 4 and sold only 450 tickets across India on day one, turning what was designed as a wider market push into an uncomfortable result.
The English Version Opened To A Very Low Response
The English version was allotted only 11 shows across four cities, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurugram and Noida, signalling limited demand from the outset. Day one collections were roughly Rs 1.40 lakh, with Mumbai and Bengaluru posting the relatively stronger occupancy. Gurugram and Noida, however, remained extremely weak, with fewer than 25 tickets sold in each city.
The numbers made the scale of the response hard to miss. For a film mounted as a pan-India event, the English format never found enough audience interest to make a visible difference on opening day.
Toxic’s Overall Collections Also Slipped On September 4
Across all languages, Toxic collected around Rs 1.50 crore to Rs 1.60 crore on September 4. The Kannada version contributed about Rs 75 lakh to Rs 80 lakh, while the Hindi version added roughly Rs 70 lakh to Rs 75 lakh. The Hindi version had earned Rs 2.54 crore on September 3, making the September 4 fall a notable one.
The extended first week total for the Hindi version stands at Rs 130.09 crore. That remains a solid number on paper, but the latest drop shows the run is now depending on how much sustaining power the film can retain in the coming days.
Cast, Crew And Film Details
That is what makes the English release especially notable. Toxic was conceived as a broader crossover play, not merely a conventional dubbed release. Directed by Geethu Mohandas, the period gangster drama is backed by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations and stars Yash in a dual role alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.
The film was simultaneously shot in Kannada and English, underlining the makers’ attempt to position it beyond its core market. Set up as a gritty gangster saga in a stylised world, Toxic clearly aimed for scale, which is why the English version’s muted theatrical start stands out so sharply.
Yash’s Recent And Upcoming Work
For Yash, Toxic carries added significance because it is his first release after K.G.F: Chapter 2 in 2022, the blockbuster that turned him into one of Indian cinema’s biggest pan-India stars. That long gap raised expectations around his comeback vehicle, making Toxic an important test of how he would follow a career-defining commercial peak.
With Toxic now under pressure in its later theatrical phase, the spotlight falls squarely on how Yash recalibrates from here, with Ramayana remaining his next major confirmed big-screen outing.
