The Independence Day weekend is always a prime time for movie releases in India and 2025 is no exception. There’s growing excitement over a possible three-way box office clash this August. Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s YRF film War 2 will be released on August 14, 2025. This much-anticipated spy action thriller has fans eagerly waiting.
War 2 To Clash With Lahore 1947 & Coolie This Independence Day Weekend?
As per the fresh reports, Aamir Khan’s Lahore 1947 (directed by Rajkumar Santoshi) might also be released the same weekend. “Lahore: 1947 is a film that celebrates India’s Independence, and what better than August 15 to release the film? They are strongly considering this date and will make an official announcement very soon,” said a source to Bollywood Hungama.
The competition doesn’t stop there. Reportedly, Rajinikanth’s Coolie is also set for release during the same period. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is expected to be a huge hit, especially in Tamil cinema.
“The Rajinikanth starrer is the most awaited film of Tamil Cinema, and the producers have locked Independence Day release for their film. Interestingly, even Coolie features Aamir Khan in an extended cameo,” the source added.
The film is almost done with shooting and will wrap up by the end of January. Fans are excited about the reunion of Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan, who haven’t worked together in nearly 30 years. Originally planned for a summer 2025 release, Coolie has reportedly moved to the August 15 weekend, putting it in direct competition with War 2 and Lahore: 1947.
Will This Three-Way Clash Occur?
With all three films releasing around the same time, the Independence Day weekend will see a fierce battle for box office dominance. Both Coolie and War 2 have the potential to break records, thanks to their star-studded casts and action-packed plots. But this triple clash could affect the box office performance of all films.
At this point, it looks like these three films will go head-to-head in August 2025. You will have to wait and see if the box office can handle all three, or if this clash will hurt their earnings. Maybe the dates will be shifted to avoid clashes.
