Actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, are facing serious legal trouble. The Mumbai Police has issued a lookout circular against the couple in connection with a fraud case amounting to approximately Rs 60 crore.
A lookout circular is a notice to stop a person from leaving the country. This action has been taken by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police as part of their investigation. The case revolves around an investment deal related to the couple’s now-closed company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.
What Are The Allegations?
The complaint was filed by a businessman named Deepak Kothari. He has alleged that between 2015 and 2023, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra took Rs 60 crore from him. According to his complaint, the money was meant for expanding their business, but he claims it was used for their personal expenses instead.
Kothari stated that the money was taken as a loan, which the couple later showed as an investment in their books to save on taxes. He also claimed that he was given a promise of the money being returned with a 12% annual interest. The complaint mentions that Shilpa Shetty gave him a personal guarantee in writing in April 2016, but she resigned as a director from the company just a few months after that.
The Police Investigation
The EOW is now looking into the case seriously. According to sources, the police are investigating the travel records of both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra. They have also called the auditor of the couple’s company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, for questioning to look deeper into the financial transactions. The lookout notice has been issued to ensure the couple remains in the country while the investigation is ongoing.
Shilpa And Raj’s Response
In response to these serious allegations, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have denied any wrongdoing. They have stated that the case is “baseless and malicious.” According to the couple, the complaint has been filed with the intention of damaging their reputation. The investigation is currently in progress.
