Sidharth Malhotra had mixed last few months with disaster ‘Thank God’ at box office but his ott release ‘Mission Majnu’ fared well. Lot of big films flopped in last 12 months or so, the franchise-based films seem to be the best bet for the Bollywood film industry at the moment. We have already witnessed the huge impact of the franchises post the covid-19 pandemic with the likes of ‘Drishyam 2’ and ‘Bhool Bhullaiya 2’ proving to be blockbuster. Even ‘Pathaan’ was part of YRF Spy Universe, a kind of franchise.
One of the biggest hit films of Akshay Kumar in recent times, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ is also in news for sometime and it’s sequel has been in the writing stage for a long time. The first film ‘Rowdy Rathore’ (2012) was biggest got for Akshay Kumar for many years, however, as per the latest reports, the sequel might go through casting changes.
According to Pinkvilla, the makers are in talks with Sidharth Malhotra to play the fierce cop in the sequel and he is said to be interested in doing the film. He is, however, still contemplating if he should play a cop role since he is already a part of Rohit Shetty’s cop show for Amazon Prime, ‘Indian Police Force’.
“The makers are looking to take the film on floors in the next 2 months as the basics are already on paper. It’s just about getting a cast on board the film now. The talks are also on with a top director, who delivered a blockbuster last year, to be at the helm of the affair”, Pinkvilla reports. This hints that Anees Bazmee might be one choice of director.
Meanwhile, initially, there were plans to make ‘Rowdy Rathore 2’ with Akshay Kumar, however, the latest reports indicate he might or might not be in the film as Sidharth is offered the role. It will be produced by Shabina Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and a leading production studio.
Akshay Kumar Starrer In All Three Big Shabeena Khan Productions
Akshay Kumar starred in ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Gabbar’ and ‘Laxmi Bomb’ – all three productions of Shabeena Khan as producer where former two were produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and third one with Tusshar Kapoor. Going by past records, Akshay Kumar might not completely out of this film too if at all Sidharth Malhotra joins the film.
At the moment, it seems like a rumour as Akshay Kumar is synonymous with the name Akshay Kumar.
