Just when the V Shantaram biopic looked set to become one of the marquee Hindi screen tributes tied to a historic milestone, the film has now slipped off its earlier schedule and moved to 2027. The delay comes as a surprise because the project is not a routine biographical drama. It is built around one of Indian cinema’s most influential filmmakers, with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia leading a cast that had already sparked strong curiosity.
The film had earlier been aligned with a symbolic release window connected to V. Shantaram’s 125th birth anniversary. Kiran Shantaram had said, “I hope we can release it on November 18, 2026, which marks his 125th birth anniversary.”
The film’s director, Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande, has clarified that the V. Shantaram biopic is very much on track and production has instead been moved to 2027. “We had initially planned an April shoot and planned to go indoors after rains. But we were delayed by two months, and then the whole schedule went haywire. Now with the fresh dates, we are planning to shoot next year with a few more big names in the casting apart from Sidharth and Tamannaah,” the filmmaker revealed.
2027 Timeline Resets A Prestigious Passion Project
The latest development is that the makers are now reworking the film for a 2027 release, moving it beyond the earlier 2026 target that had framed initial conversations around the project. Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia continue to be associated with the film, while industry listings have also linked Abhijit Deshpande as director.
That revised timeline puts the focus back on the scale of the material itself. V. Shantaram was not only a celebrated filmmaker but also a defining creative force whose work bridged artistry, social commentary and mainstream appeal. Tamannaah, meanwhile, has stayed consistently visible through titles such as Aranmanai 4 and Sikandar Ka Muqaddar in 2024, Odela 2 in 2025, and her special appearance in the song “Nasha” from Raid 2, with O’Romeo listed for 2026. Against that backdrop, the 2027 shift gives their V.
