Govinda Naam Mera Hai reunites with two of his former co-stars in the movie, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar, who play his wife and lover, respectively, and dabbles in the dark comedy genre. The movie’s trailer said that it was a comedy with a murder mystery rather than the usual romantic love triangle and that Vicky will play Govinda Waghmare in a never-before-seen role.
Vicky Kaushal made reference to his earlier comment about how he was inspired by seeing movies like International Khiladi when discussing how he caught the acting bug and what motivated him to pursue it.
When asked about his fascination with this Akshay Kumar movie, the Masaan actor responded, “English films came pretty late in my life. I grew up watching movies starring Shah Rukh Khan, Govinda, and Akshay Kumar. I didn’t start going to theatres until much later in life. Television at the time frequently featured movies like International Khiladi, or the Khiladi series. As a result of growing up viewing them, we were all fans of these movies.”
“Probably my first germ of wanting to become an actor was seeded by such films. And Govinda Naam Mera is a fragment of the same fabric. It is an ode to such pulpy films where there is murder, comedy, romance, betrayal, suspense, and all of it in one film. I am very grateful to Shashank Khaitan to have come up with this concept where he has kept it contemporary but it is also an ode to the pulpy Bollywood masala films.”
In the movie Govinda Naam Mera, which stars Bhumi Pednekar as the controlling wife and Kiara Advani as the encouraging girlfriend, the middle-class choreographer goes to all means to preserve what is left of his fortune, including the home he is now residing in. The movie will premiere on Disney+Hotstar on December 16.
