A New Spy Could Be Joining YRF’s Expanding Universe
After a considerable impact with Chhaava earlier this year, Vicky Kaushal might be the next actor who steps into the high-octane world of espionage. According to trusted trade sources, Vicky is in discussions to headline a new standalone film in Yash Raj Films’ money-spinning Spy Universe.
YRF’s spyverse is already boasting an enviable roster — Salman Khan as Tiger, Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan, Hrithik Roshan as Kabir Dhaliwal, and now Alia Bhatt as the title character in Alpha. If the deal is finalised, Vicky would become the fifth big-named entry into the franchise and would bring a different narrative into the YRF espionage saga.
New Storyline Within Existing Universe
The yet-untitled film is primed to be a new spinoff that connects to the larger universe but zeroes in on Vicky’s journey as an intelligence operative. A trade source said,
“Vicky is excited about joining the franchise. He has already established his prowess in action with drama, and YRF sees him as a natural fit for a younger, edgier spy movie. It’s intended to bring an energy into the franchise that didn’t overlap, in terms of story, with all the Tiger-Pathaan-Kabir narratives.”
The project is slated to begin production in 2026 once the director is finalised. YRF is in touch with a number of filmmakers, but it wishes to marry the shiny gloss of international spy thrillers with India’s rich storytelling traditions — a potent combination that has already served them well.
A Franchise Powerhouse In The Making
YRF’s Spy Universe began with the originally titled Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, which has become a multibillion-rupee franchise. With War 2 featuring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr and Kiara Advani planned for release in August 2025, and Alpha in production, it is evident that YRF is fully committed to franchise storytelling.
This expansion, including Kaushal possibly entering the fold, fits into Aditya Chopra’s strategy of creating a Marvel-like interconnected universe with Indian sensibilities, and it just gets bigger and bigger with each revelation.
